WHAT WE DO:
PILED RAFT FOUNDATIONS
Piled raft foundations combine the piles and a raft foundation, both acting together as one unit to carry the loads. It is an efficient and cost-effective option when constructing large structures. This system will help transfer and redistribute the load to the piles for added stability and provide deeper foundations which would not be otherwise possible.
A hollow auger (a helical screw drill) is bored into the ground using specialised machinery and soil is lifted out in the process. This soil can then be used to retrieve samples in order to determine the quality and bearing capacity of the subsoil. We then pump concrete through the hollow auger to the bottom of the pile bore to cast concrete columns resting on a level of stable subsoil.
We remove the arisings, and then lower the pile cage onto the wet concrete: this is a steel cage that serves as reinforcement. This method is ideal for brittle rock, sandy soil or gravel. The shape and dimensions of pile caps depend on their number and spacing. Most commonly, we will make use of special type of industrial tube, the special slip coating allows for movement of clay around the pile , thus greatly reducing stress normally transferred through said pile. These details will be determined in the design phase, taking into consideration the various factors that affect the depth of the pile head.
